How to create and manage tick lists

Tick Lists let you track a specific skill or behaviour across your entire class. Describe what you want to monitor - like "Can use scissors safely" or "Shares toys with peers" - and TeachScribe will automatically check every new observation for evidence. You can also add manual assessments at any time.

Open Tick Lists

From your classroom dashboard, tap Tick Lists in the sidebar on the left.

This shows all your active and completed tick lists. The number on the sidebar badge tells you how many tick lists are currently active.

Create a new tick list

Tap the blue Add Tick List button in the top-right corner.

Type a short description of the skill or behaviour you want to track. Be specific - the AI uses this description to look for matching evidence in your observations.

Good examples:

- "Can use scissors safely"

- "Shares toys with peers"

- "Can count to 10 independently"

- "Uses past tense correctly when speaking"

When you're happy with the description, tap Create. You'll be taken straight to the checklist for your new tick list.

How automatic evidence works in tick lists

Once a tick list is active, you'll see a green badge that reads "Checking new observations for evidence" at the top of the checklist.

This means the AI is working in the background. Every time you record a new observation, TeachScribe checks whether it contains evidence related to your tick list. If it does, the relevant child's skill level updates automatically.

You don't need to do anything differently - just keep recording observations as usual.

Complete or resume a tick list

When you're finished monitoring a skill, tap the green Complete button at the top of the checklist. A confirmation will appear β€” all evidence collected so far is saved and you can come back to it at any time.

To find a completed tick list, go to the Tick Lists view and tap Show Completed.

Tap any completed tick list to view its checklist. To start monitoring again, tap Resume and the AI will begin checking new observations for evidence once more.

Active tick list limit

We recommend having no more than 5 active tick lists at a time. The counter in the top-right of the Active Tick Lists section shows how many you're using (e.g. "1/5"). This is because the AI is most accurate when you are actively monitoring against fewer tick lists. Therefore when you're done monitoring a tick list, you should tap the "complete" button.

Note: Completing a tick list does not delete any evidence. Everything is saved and you can resume monitoring it at any time.
